SCAHPERD 2012 Grant  Opportunity

The Alliance Finance Committee is charged with the responsibility of administrating special projects (grants) to the Associations which encourage support, research, and development.  The Committee supports a wide range of professional activities that will benefit the Association and the Alliance in the development of its members.  The Committee recognizes that interests vary from Association to Association.  Associations and individuals within an Association are welcome to apply for project funding which support professional growth and development.

All members and Associations of the SC Alliance, as defined in the Alliance By-Laws, are eligible to apply for Alliance Grants.  Preference is given to Multi-Association, Association, and Individual request.  Members of the Alliance Finance Committee are not eligible to apply for Alliance Grants during the time they are sitting on the committee.  However, they can apply to the Alliance Executive Board of Directors for funds to support similar activities.

The applications are to be submitted to the Executive Director of the Alliance by 6:00 pm of the deadline date:

1st Round: First Friday of September (awarded in November)
2nd Round: Second Friday of January (awarded in March)

Annie's Homegrown is offering up to $250 to community gardens, school gardens, and other programs that connect kids to gardening. They donate to schools and non-profit organizations.

Verizon grants are awarded to advance literacy and educational achievement, and promote health and safety.  The Foundation reviews unsolicited proposals annually from January 1
to October 15.  Funding decisions are made within 90 days of application. 
Funding level: $10,000
The Rite Aid Foundation offers grants to programs that focus on health and wellness in communities where Rite Aids operate. Application deadline: October 1, 2011.

Costco offers grants to organizations that focus on disadvantaged children and youth in the areas of education and/or health.  Grant application at the bottom of the page.
NASPE's grant opportunities database provides information about the availability of program and research grants and is updated monthly.
Build a Bear Workshop will be offering Grants for Pawsome Causes focusing on children's health and wellness.  Requests will be accepted until October 2011.  Their goal is to provide grants to help as many programs as possible that are working hard to make the world a healthier and happier place for kids.
The Brady Education Foundation seeks to close the achievement gap by increasing the school readiness of children at risk for poor school outcomes due to environmental factors associated with living in poverty. The Foundation pursues its mission by promoting collaboration between researchers and educators via the funding of research and program evaluations in early education.
Through the National Grassroots Grant Program, Ben & Jerry's Foundation grant program aims to further social justice, protect the environment and support sustainable food systems. Grants of up to $15,000 are provided to grassroots, constituent-led organizations that are using community organizing strategies to accomplish their goals as well as organizations
that provide technical support and/or resources to such groups.  Deadline: Rolling.
Lowe's Toolbox for Education grant program is funded by the Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation, which has supported thousands of grassrootscommunity and school projects in the communities where Lowe's does business. The Fall 2011 cycle is now open. Deadline:  October 14, 2011. Funding level: $5000.
Kohl's Cares for Kids supports kids' health and education, environmental initiatives and women's health. They envision a future where kids are healthy, resources are plentiful and disease that affects women and their families is eradicated.
State Farm Companies Foundation supports efforts to provide all children with an education that will allow them to reach their greatest potential and prepare them to participate in a
nation and economy that continues as a global leader. We fund three types of grants for
K-12 public schools: Teacher Development, Service-Learning and Systemic Improvement.
CVS Caremark Community Grants Program focuses on children under age 21 with disabilities and the uninsured and underinsured. Requests for grants are accepted beginning on January 1 and ending on October 31.
Sara Lee Foundation operates within guidelines that support nonprofit organizations with clearly defined missions and programs addressing the following areas: domestic hunger, healthy weight through energy balance and diversity through highly visible cultural programs.
Finish Line Youth Foundation focuses funding on organizations that provide opportunities for youth participation in the following areas: Youth athletic programs (community-based programs addressing active lifestyle and team building skills) and Camps (established camps with an emphasis on sports and active lifestyle, especially programs serving disadvantaged and special needs kids)
Through an ongoing grant from the United States Golf Association (USGA), the USGA and
the National Alliance for Accessible Golf have joined forces to fund golf programs for individuals with disabilities.
Speed Stacks wants to help instructors motivated to offer a full-fledged Sport Stacking program but are unable to generate the funds through their school, parent organization or community. Through the PE4life/Speed Stacks Sport Pack Grant Program, instructors will
be provided with eqipment that will provide students with a unique and fun Sport Stacking experience that promotes the development of fitness, motor skills, patterning, sequencing, focus and concentration, as well as hand-eye coordination and ambidexterity.
PepsiCo offers grants that are related to education, health and wellness, diversity and inclusion, and thought leadership.

The Explore Fund will support organizations that encourage youth outdoor participation, focusing primarily on creating more connections of children to nature, increasing access to both front & backcountry recreation, as well as providing education for both personal and environmental health.

The George Lucas Educational Foundation is a nonprofit operating foundation and is not a grant-making organization, but assists those seeking grants or grant information thorough an online resource list.
Nonprofit organizations that run literacy programs for adults and children can apply for grants of up to $65,000 to support or expand programs.  Deadline is September 9, 2011.
Rolling deadline. These grants are designed to help school administrators evaluate media technology options while building or upgrading classrooms.
Rolling deadline. Public school libraries affected by disasters may apply for grants of
$5,000 to $15,000.

Fuel Up to Play 60, the free in-school nutrition and physical activity program, offers funding to help schools implement the program.  The competitive funding initiative provides money to help schools jumpstart and sustain healthy nutrition and physical activity improvements. Upcoming deadlines February 1 and June 1.
